MongoDB is a developer data platform company. Its platform is a globally distributed operational database, built on a document-based architecture, that is integrated with a set of data services so development teams can address a wide range of application requirements in one unified experience. The company positions its database as an alternative to legacy relational databases, aiming to handle unstructured data while keeping the strengths of relational systems. It has also emphasized support for generative AI applications, including through its February 2025 acquisition of Voyage AI Innovations, a developer of embedding and reranking models.

The company sells two main offerings. Atlas is its managed multi-cloud database-as-a-service, available in more than 130 regions across AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. It represented 73% of total revenue in fiscal 2026 (70% in 2025, 66% in 2024). MongoDB Enterprise Advanced is a proprietary self-managed subscription offering that runs in the cloud, on-premises or in hybrid environments, and includes the enterprise database server, management tools (Cloud Manager Premium or Ops Manager) and analytics integrations. It represented 20% of fiscal 2026 revenue (23% in 2025, 26% in 2024). Professional services, mainly consulting and training, were 3% of revenue. Platform capabilities include search, vector search, time series, data lifecycle management, application-driven analytics, stream processing and queryable encryption. The company also offers free Community Server and a free Atlas tier to encourage developer adoption; Community Server has been downloaded over 700 million times since 2009.

MongoDB markets to organizations of all sizes across industries, with a key sales focus on enterprises that invest heavily in software development and can run tens of thousands of applications. It cites IDC data putting the worldwide database management software market at $93 billion in 2024, growing to about $169 billion in 2029. Revenue from outside the United States was 46% of the total in each of the last three fiscal years. The fourth-quarter net ARR expansion rate was 121%. Growth strategies include expanding within existing customers, acquiring new customers, extending the product line, fostering the developer community (over 3.0 million MongoDB University registrations), growing partnerships and expanding internationally.

The company sells through a direct sales force, self-serve channels and a partner ecosystem. Partners include the three major cloud providers, Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud (for an authorized service in China), and independent software vendors and systems integrators such as IBM, Accenture, Infosys, Capgemini, Confluent, HCL, Wipro, Cognizant, Deloitte and Tata Consultancy Services. It also runs the MongoDB AI Applications Program with consultancies, cloud providers and foundation model providers. MongoDB owns the intellectual property of its software, which supports its proprietary subscription model. Its platform runs on commodity hardware.
