CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS, INC. /MO/ (CHTR)
SEC filings, insider trading & institutional ownership from EDGAR.
Charter Communications is a broadband connectivity company that sells its services under the Spectrum brand. It provides Internet, mobile, TV and voice products over its Spectrum Fiber Broadband Network. The company was founded in 1993 and has moved from cable TV into streaming, high-speed Internet and a converged broadband, WiFi and mobile offering. Its strategy is to use its fiber-powered network to deliver competitively priced products with strong service, so that it can grow both the number of customers and the number of products sold to each one, which it expects to lower churn and acquisition costs.
Residential and small business customers receive subscription-based Internet, mobile, video and voice services, sold individually or as bundles. Spectrum Internet offers speeds up to 1 Gbps across the footprint and multi-gigabit speeds in part of it. Advanced WiFi is available to all Internet customers. Spectrum Mobile runs over customers' WiFi, 49 million out-of-home WiFi access points and Verizon's cellular network, and a T-Mobile agreement is set to launch in 2026. Video includes about 375 channels, the Spectrum TV app, cloud DVR, video on demand, the Xumo stream box and an app store for streaming applications. Voice uses VoIP. Spectrum Business serves small, mid-market and large businesses, government entities and carriers with Internet, WAN, managed services, unified communications, voice and video. Spectrum Reach sells local, regional and national advertising across cable networks and streaming platforms. The company also operates or distributes regional sports networks, including Spectrum SportsNet for the Los Angeles Lakers and SportsNet LA for the Dodgers, owns 35% of SportsNet New York, and runs over 35 local news channels. Spectrum Community Solutions serves apartments, gated communities, student housing and similar properties.
Services are available to about 58 million homes and businesses across 41 states. At December 31, 2025, the company had about 31.8 million residential and small business customer relationships, 29.7 million Internet customers, 11.8 million mobile lines, 12.6 million video customers and 6.0 million voice customers. Revenue comes mainly from monthly customer fees, plus installation fees that are sometimes waived. The company also offers low-cost Internet plans for qualified low-income households. Since early 2022 it has spent $7.7 billion on a subsidized rural construction initiative that has activated about 1.3 million passings in unserved and underserved areas.
The company operates its geographically diverse footprint on a centrally managed, consolidated basis and uses 100% U.S.-based employees. It is upgrading its network through spectrum expansion, a high-split bandwidth allocation, Distributed Access Architecture and DOCSIS 4.0, with the work expected to be largely complete by the end of 2027 and to enable symmetrical, multi-gigabit speeds. Key partners include Verizon, T-Mobile, major programmers, and advertising partners such as Comcast and DirecTV. Principal executive offices are at 400 Washington Blvd., Stamford, Connecticut.
