The Specialty Diagnostics segment provides diagnostic test kits, reagents, culture media and instruments through its Clinical Diagnostics, ImmunoDiagnostics, Microbiology, Transplant Diagnostics, and Healthcare Market Channel businesses, serving healthcare, clinical, pharmaceutical, industrial and food safety laboratories.

The Laboratory Products and Biopharma Services segment offers laboratory products, chemicals, and a research and safety market channel, along with outsourced pharma services and clinical research services covering drug development, clinical trials, and commercial manufacturing for small- and large-molecule pharmaceuticals, serving pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, medical device, government and industrial markets. During 2022, several segments continued supporting COVID-19 diagnostic testing and vaccine manufacturing needs for pharma and biotech customers. The company markets and sells its products and services through a direct sales force of approximately 15,000 personnel, customer-service professionals, electronic commerce, and third-party distributors, and continually invests in research and development, capacity expansion, and acquisitions to broaden its portfolio.

As of December 31, 2022, Thermo Fisher employed approximately 130,000 colleagues globally, with operations spanning the Americas, Asia Pacific, and EMEA regions, and it faces competition from a broad range of manufacturers, distributors and service providers across the diverse markets it serves, while operating under various environmental, safety, healthcare, export/import, transportation and government-contracting regulations in the United States and other countries.
