NasdaqInformation TechnologySemiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment

MACOM Technology Solutions designs, develops and manufactures differentiated semiconductor products for the Industrial and Defense (I&D), Data Center and Telecommunications markets. Its customers demand high performance, quality and reliability. The company draws on more than 70 years of application expertise, analog and mixed signal circuit design, compound semiconductor fabrication (GaAs, GaN, InP and specialized silicon), advanced packaging, and back-end assembly and test. It was incorporated in Delaware in March 2009 and operates through subsidiaries in various jurisdictions.

The company offers thousands of standard and custom devices across dozens of product lines. These include integrated circuits, multi-chip modules, diodes, amplifiers, switches and switch limiters, passive and active components, and RF and optical subsystems. Major families include power and low noise amplifiers, PAM-4 PHYs, transimpedance amplifiers, modulator and laser drivers, lasers, photodiodes, phase shifters, pin and Schottky diodes, and space-qualified modules. In I&D, products serve military and commercial radar, electronic warfare, communication data links, satellite communications, and industrial, medical, test and measurement and scientific uses such as MRI diode products. In Data Center, products support optical interconnects at 100G through 1.6T and beyond. In Telecom, they support long-haul and metro networks, 5G and 6G infrastructure, satellite communications, FTTx/PON and wired broadband.

The products are components that customers build into larger systems such as wireless basestations, optical networks, data center networks, radar, medical systems and satellite networks. The company serves over 6,000 end customers, including OEMs, contract manufacturers, resellers and distributors. It sells through a direct sales force, application engineers, independent sales representatives, resellers and distributors, mainly in North America, Asia and Europe. Distributors accounted for 29.3% of fiscal 2024 revenue. One reseller represented 11.3% of revenue, no direct customer reached 10%, and the top 25 direct customers made up 47.0%. Sales are mostly made on a purchase order basis rather than under long-term commitments.

MACOM is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts, and has facilities across North America, Europe and Asia. It uses a fab-lite manufacturing model, combining internal wafer fabrication with external foundry and contract assembly partners. It operates fabs in Lowell, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Limeil-Brévannes, France, and expects to assume control of a fab in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Assembly and test sites include Lowell, Nashua, Ann Arbor, Hamilton, Morgan Hill, Limeil-Brévannes and Hsinchu, Taiwan. The Lowell facility holds U.S. Department of Defense Trusted Foundry status. Raw materials include gallium, aluminum, arsenic and silicon, bought from hundreds of suppliers, with some single-source dependencies. The company reported 726 U.S. and 451 foreign issued patents as of September 27, 2024. Competitors include Analog Devices, Broadcom, Credo, Marvell, MaxLinear, Microchip, NXP, Qorvo, Semtech, Skyworks and Sumitomo, as well as customers' internal design teams.
