MetLife, Inc., a Delaware corporation incorporated in 1999, is one of the world's leading financial services companies, providing insurance, annuities, employee benefits, and asset management, with leading market positions in the U.S., Japan, Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. It is also one of the largest institutional investors in the U.S., with a general account portfolio invested primarily in fixed income securities, mortgage loans, real estate, real estate joint ventures, other limited partnerships, and equity securities. The company operates under its "Next Horizon" strategy, focused on generating strong free cash flow, simplifying operations for efficiency and customer experience, and driving competitive advantage through brand, scale, talent, and innovation.

MetLife is organized into five reportable segments—U.S.; Asia; Latin America; Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA); and MetLife Holdings—plus a Corporate & Other category. The U.S. segment comprises Group Benefits, which offers life, dental, disability, AD&D, vision, and accident & health insurance along with ASO arrangements sold to corporations, associations, and government employees, and Retirement and Income Solutions (RIS), which provides stable value products (GICs, synthetic GICs, funding agreements), pension risk transfer annuities, institutional income annuities, structured settlements, and risk solutions including longevity reinsurance, benefit funding solutions, and capital markets investment products. The Asia segment, MetLife's largest international operation centered in Japan alongside eight other jurisdictions, distributes life, accident & health, and retirement and savings products through career and general agencies, bancassurance, and other channels.

The Latin America segment, with major operations in Mexico and Chile, offers life, retirement and savings (including Chile's privatized pension system), accident & health, and credit insurance through captive agencies, direct marketing, and brokers. The EMEA segment, largest in the U.K., France, and the Gulf region, provides life, accident & health, retirement and savings, and credit insurance via multiple distribution channels across developed and emerging markets. The MetLife Holdings segment consists of legacy products no longer actively marketed in the U.S., including variable, universal, term and whole life insurance, variable, fixed and index-linked annuities, long-term care insurance, and assumed variable annuity guarantees from a former Japanese joint venture.
