NYSEHealth CareHealth Care Equipment & Supplies

Medtronic plc, headquartered in Galway, Ireland, is a global healthcare technology company founded in 1949. It develops, manufactures, distributes and sells device-based medical therapies and services, guided by a mission written by its founder in 1960 to alleviate pain, restore health and extend life. Its strategy centers on accelerating innovation-driven growth, delivering better outcomes and experiences for patients and providers, and using data, AI and automation to tailor therapies and enable remote monitoring and care. The company has over 95,000 full-time employees, 43% of them based in the U.S. or Puerto Rico.

Medtronic reports three segments. The Cardiovascular Portfolio covers Cardiac Rhythm & Heart Failure (pacemakers, defibrillators, resynchronization devices, cardiac ablation products such as pulsed field ablation catheters, insertable cardiac monitors, TYRX envelopes and remote monitoring), Structural Heart & Aortic (Evolut transcatheter aortic valves, surgical valves, aortic stent grafts, pulmonary valves, left atrial appendage exclusion and ECMO systems), and Coronary & Peripheral Vascular (coronary stents, balloons and catheters, renal denervation for hypertension, drug-coated balloons, atherectomy and venous disease products). The Neuroscience Portfolio covers Cranial & Spinal Technologies (spine implants, surgical navigation, imaging and robotic guidance, powered surgical drills, and biologics such as Infuse bone graft), Specialty Therapies (neurovascular stroke and aneurysm devices, ENT products and pelvic health neurostimulation), and Neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation, brain modulation, implantable drug infusion systems and Kyphon and ablation interventional products). The Medical Surgical Portfolio covers Surgical & Endoscopy (stapling, vessel sealing, electrosurgery, sutures, hernia products, the Hugo robotic-assisted surgery system, Touch Surgery video analytics and GI endoscopy products) and Acute Care & Monitoring (pulse oximetry, BIS brain monitoring, cerebral oximetry, capnography and airway management products).

The company also had a Diabetes business, which makes insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring systems and consumables for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. In May 2025 Medtronic announced its intent to separate it, and MiniMed Group, Inc. completed an initial public offering on March 9, 2026. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 Diabetes ceased to be a reportable segment and is included in all other businesses along with exited or divested operations.

Medtronic serves healthcare systems, physicians, clinicians and patients in more than 150 countries. Cardiovascular products are used by electrophysiologists, implanting and interventional cardiologists, heart failure specialists, and cardiovascular, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons. Neuroscience products are used by spinal surgeons, neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain management specialists, urologists and ENT specialists, among others. Medical Surgical products are used mainly by healthcare systems, physicians' offices, ambulatory surgical centers and other alternate site providers, and occasionally in the home. Diabetes products are used or prescribed by endocrinologists and primary care physicians. The company notes that its markets are subject to rapid technological advances and innovation.
