Leidos Holdings, Inc. is a holding company whose principal operating subsidiary, Leidos, Inc., is an industry and technology leader serving government and commercial customers with digital and mission innovations. Founded in 1969 by physicist Dr. Robert Beyster, it applies expertise in science, research and engineering to complex problems. It pursues growth across five pillars: space and maritime; energy infrastructure; digital modernization and cyber; mission software; and managed health services.

The business is organized into four reportable segments, plus Corporate for unallocated costs. National Security & Digital (44% of fiscal 2025 revenues) provides digital modernization, mission software, multi-domain solutions, cyber operations, and intelligence analysis, mission support and logistics services. Health & Civil (30%) covers managed health services such as VA disability and behavioral health exams, air traffic control and transportation systems, health mission software including the electronic health record for DoW and VA facilities, energy and environment support, and life sciences research. Commercial & International (13%) offers energy infrastructure services for utilities, security detection products (more than 30,000 deployed in over 120 countries, including people scanners, baggage scanners and explosive trace detectors), ports and borders inspection systems, and services to UK and Australian government agencies. Defense Systems (13%) delivers maritime systems, aerospace systems (space-based sensors and payloads, hypersonic structures and testing), land systems (integrated air and missile defense, radar and sensors) and airborne systems. In fiscal 2025 the company acquired Savanna Industries, Inc. (Kudu Dynamics).

Leidos generated 87% of fiscal 2025 revenues from U.S. government contracts, as prime or subcontractor, and about 8% from entities outside the United States. Customers include the Department of War, the Intelligence Community, DHS, FAA, VA, TSA, CBP, DoE, NIH and many other civilian, state and local agencies. International customers include the UK Ministry of Defence, the Australian Department of Defence, NATO and commercial businesses such as investor-owned utilities, airports and port authorities.

Headquartered in Reston, Virginia, Leidos had about 47,000 employees at January 2, 2026, roughly 41,900 of them in the U.S. and the rest in about 45 countries; 53% hold U.S. security clearances. It spent $187 million on company-funded research and development in fiscal 2025. It relies on trade secrets and selective patents, and the U.S. government holds certain rights to technology developed under government-funded contracts. Contracts are won through definitive award and IDIQ vehicles, among others. Its competitors include Accenture Federal Services, Amentum, KBR, BAE Systems, Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, General Dynamics, IBM, L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Parsons, Peraton, RTX and SAIC, as well as smaller specialized firms, startups and non-traditional entrants.
