HUNT J B TRANSPORT SERVICES INC (JBHT)
SEC filings, insider trading & institutional ownership from EDGAR.
J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. is a publicly held holding company and one of the largest surface transportation, delivery, and logistics companies in North America. Through wholly owned subsidiaries, it provides transportation, brokerage, and delivery services across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico. It was incorporated in Arkansas in 1961 and has been public since its 1983 IPO. Its vision is to create the most efficient transportation network in North America, and it pursues an integrated, multimodal strategy built around capacity-oriented solutions.
The company reports five segments. Intermodal (JBI) works with major North American rail carriers for the linehaul and handles most drayage with its own tractors. It operated 124,838 company-owned containers and trailing units and 104,474 chassis at year-end 2025, and generated $5.98 billion of 2025 revenue. Dedicated Contract Services (DCS) designs and runs customized private-fleet and supply chain solutions under three-to-ten-year contracts, with $3.38 billion of revenue. Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS) provides freight brokerage and logistics through about 126,000 available third-party carriers and the J.B. Hunt 360 online marketplace, with $1.11 billion of revenue. Final Mile Services (FMS) provides last-mile delivery of big and bulky goods, including installation, fulfillment, and LTL services, with $824 million of revenue. Truckload (JBT) offers full-load dry-van service, including the 360box drop-trailer program, with $734 million of revenue.
Customers include many Fortune 500 companies across diverse industries. The freight moved includes general merchandise, consumer items, appliances, home furnishings, forest and paper products, food and beverages, building materials, apparel, automotive parts, agricultural products, electronics, and chemicals. Services are marketed through a nationwide sales network, with dedicated sales forces for DCS and FMS, and through the J.B. Hunt 360 platform, where shippers and carriers can quote, book, and track freight. The company bills customers for all services and pays third parties for their share. Contracts run one to five years in FMS and three to ten years in DCS.
At December 31, 2025, the company had 31,750 employees, including 21,554 company drivers, none of them unionized. It owned 18,843 tractors and trucks, with an average tractor age of 2.7 years, and worked with 2,350 independent contractors. It performs routine maintenance at its regional terminal facilities. It relies on Class I railroads, including BNSF since 1989, and on third-party carriers. Competitors include other intermodal marketing companies, railroads, truckload carriers, private fleets, equipment lessors, local and regional delivery providers, and non-asset-based brokers, and the markets are highly fragmented. Competition is primarily on price, on-time service, and equipment and carrier availability. Operations are regulated by the DOT, FMCSA, and the EPA and OSHA, and cross-border business is also subject to Canadian, Mexican, and U.S. Customs rules.
