Corteva, Inc. (CTVA)
SEC filings, insider trading & institutional ownership from EDGAR.
Corteva, Inc. is a global provider of seed and crop protection solutions for the agriculture industry. It was incorporated in Delaware in March 2018 and is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. It became an independent, publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker CTVA) on June 1, 2019, after separating from DowDuPont, and it owns 100% of the common stock of EIDP, Inc. (formerly E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company). The company focuses on science-based innovation and a new product pipeline meant to help farmers raise productivity. On October 1, 2025, it announced its intent to separate the Seed and Crop Protection businesses into two standalone, publicly traded companies through an intended tax-free spin-off.
Operations are managed through two segments. The Seed segment develops and supplies commercial seed that combines germplasm with advanced traits. It leads in markets including North America corn and soybeans, Europe corn and sunflower, and corn in Brazil, India, South Africa and Argentina. Its brands include Pioneer, Brevant, Dairyland Seed, Hoegemeyer, AgVenture and PhytoGen. Its trait technologies include Enlist E3 soybeans, PowerCore, Herculex, SMARTSTAX, Qrome and Conkesta, along with seed treatments and digital solutions. The Crop Protection segment supplies products against weeds, insects, nematodes and disease, plus nitrogen stabilizers and biologicals. Its brands include Enlist, Arylex, Rinskor, Zorvec, Spinetoram-based Delegate and Spintor, Instinct, N-Serve, Stimulate and Utrisha N.
Corteva's products serve farmers in approximately 110 countries. Seed is sold through four channels: the Pioneer agency model (direct sales to farmers mainly via independent sales representatives), regional seed brands sold through employees and farmer-dealer networks, retail storefronts serving distributors, cooperatives and dealers, and out-licensing of traits and germplasm to third parties. Sales are seasonal, with about 60 percent in the first half of the calendar year, driven by northern hemisphere planting, and about 40 percent in the second half, led by southern hemisphere Seed sales. The company had approximately 21,500 employees at December 31, 2025.
For Seed, the company contracts with third-party growers globally and conditions and packages seed in its own and contract plants, producing close to customers. For Crop Protection, key raw materials include chlorinated pyridine derivatives, specialty intermediates, technical grade active ingredients, chlorine and seed treatments. These are bought mainly under long-term contracts with multiple suppliers, and contract manufacturers produce certain inputs. Products are generally formulated close to end customers. The company owns about 5,900 U.S. patents and about 10,200 active patents outside the U.S., and it licenses biotechnology traits from third parties. Its key competitors include BASF, Bayer, FMC, Syngenta and ChemChina, as well as generic crop protection suppliers and regional seed companies. Its products are subject to regulatory approval and environmental regulation, including rules on genetically modified and gene-edited organisms.
