A dedicated global purchasing team buys cementitious materials, bitumen, steel and energy at market rates. The company is not dependent on any single source other than for gas and electricity in certain jurisdictions. Operations are seasonal and weather-sensitive, and are subject to environmental, permitting and mine reclamation regulation. Many of its markets are highly fragmented and competitive, with pricing affected by macroeconomic conditions, the number of competitors and capacity utilization. CRH also invests in innovation through CRH Ventures and focuses sustainability efforts on water, circularity and decarbonization.
