SEC filings, insider trading & institutional ownership from EDGAR.
BioNTech is a global next-generation immunotherapy company, founded in 2008 and headquartered in Mainz, Germany, that aims to pioneer novel medicines against cancer, infectious diseases and other serious diseases. It operates a fully integrated model that combines immunology research, a multi-technology innovation engine, GMP manufacturing, translational drug discovery, clinical development, commercial capabilities, and computational medicine, data science, AI and machine learning. Its American depositary shares are listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under "BNTX," and it completed its IPO in October 2019.
Its one marketed product is Comirnaty, a COVID-19 vaccine and the first approved mRNA-based product. Its technology platforms include investigational mRNA immunotherapies and protein-based therapeutics such as monoclonal and bispecific antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates. Oncology is the primary focus. The pipeline has 16 clinical oncology programs, with more than 25 Phase 2 and Phase 3 trials and 10 novel combination trials ongoing for the bispecific antibody pumitamig, which targets PD-L1 and VEGF-A. Other oncology candidates include antibody-drug conjugates, mRNA cancer immunotherapies such as autogene cevumeran, and other immunomodulators. In infectious diseases, programs target COVID-19, influenza combination vaccines, HSV, mpox, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
Comirnaty has been authorized or approved in more than 180 countries and regions, and over 5 billion doses have been shipped. Under its collaboration with Pfizer, BioNTech is the Marketing Authorization Holder in the US, EU, UK and Canada, among others. Pfizer holds marketing and distribution rights worldwide except Greater China, Germany and Türkiye, where BioNTech holds them in Germany and Türkiye and Fosun Pharma holds them in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. In 2025 the companies launched a variant-adapted vaccine in 69 markets and held over 50% of the global COVID-19 vaccine market in the fall 2025 season. They have a purchase agreement with the European Commission, and some geographies are shifting from advance purchase agreements to commercial market ordering. Infectious disease programs are partly funded by partners including the Gates Foundation and CEPI.
BioNTech works with partners on development. Bristol Myers Squibb co-develops and co-commercializes pumitamig, and other partners include DualityBio, Genentech, OncoC4, Genmab, Regeneron, MediLink and the University of Pennsylvania. It acquired Biotheus in February 2025 and announced the acquisition of CureVac in December 2025. It ended 2025 with about €17.2 billion in cash, cash equivalents and security investments. It is consolidating and adjusting its manufacturing network capacities through 2027, with Pfizer supporting a global vaccine supply chain and manufacturing network. In March 2026 it announced plans for an independent company, led by co-founders Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci, to advance next-generation mRNA innovations.
