AMETEK INC/ (AME)
SEC filings, insider trading & institutional ownership from EDGAR.
AMETEK, Inc. is a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, with operations in North America, Europe, Asia and South America. Incorporated in Delaware and tracing its origins to 1930 as American Machine and Metals, Inc., it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (AME) and is a component of the S&P 500 and Russell 1000 indices. In 2025 it reported sales of $7,401.1 million, up 6.6% from 2024, and diluted earnings per share of $6.40. Its strategy, the AMETEK Growth Model, combines operational excellence, strategic acquisitions, global and market expansion, and new product development. From 2021 through 2025 it completed 15 acquisitions with annualized sales of about $1.8 billion, including Kern Microtechnik and FARO Technologies in 2025.
The company operates through two groups. Electronic Instruments (EIG) designs and makes analytical, test, measurement and monitoring instruments. Process and analytical instrumentation was 70% of EIG's 2025 sales and includes process analyzers, emission monitors, spectrometers, sensors and transmitters, radiation measurement devices, precision manufacturing and metrology systems, and 3D measurement solutions. Aerospace and power instrumentation was 30% and includes power quality monitoring and metering, uninterruptible and programmable power supplies, EMC test equipment, gas turbine sensors, heavy-truck dashboard instruments, and aircraft sensors, data systems, cockpit displays, fuel measurement and embedded computing products. Electromechanical (EMG) supplies medical components and devices, precision motion control, thermal management systems, specialty metals and electrical interconnects. Automation and engineered solutions was 70% of EMG's 2025 sales. It covers motion control, brushless motors, blowers, pumps, heat exchangers, surgical instruments, implantable components, drug delivery systems, connectors, electronics packaging, and metal powders, strip, wire and clad products. Aerospace was 30% and covers motor-blower systems and heat exchangers for aircraft and military ground vehicles, plus a global network of maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities.
AMETEK serves process, power and industrial, aerospace and defense, medical, semiconductor, automation, life sciences, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and oil and gas markets. It sells to commercial and military aircraft, jet engine and original equipment manufacturers and aerospace system integrators. In 2025, 52% of EIG's net sales and 42% of EMG's were to customers outside the United States, with Europe the largest overseas market. Customer concentration is low: EIG's five largest customers made up about 4% of its sales, and EMG's about 15%. EIG uses specialized distributors, sales representatives and a direct sales force, while aerospace customers are served mainly by direct sales engineers. EMG relies mostly on a direct sales force with some representatives and distributors.
AMETEK is headquartered at 1100 Cassatt Road, Berwyn, Pennsylvania. At the end of 2025, EIG employed about 12,800 people and EMG about 9,400. Facilities are located across the United States, Europe, Canada, Argentina, Mexico and Asia, including best-cost sites in China, Czechia, Malaysia, Mexico and Serbia. Manufacturing follows lean, flexible practices, and the business model is asset-light. Raw materials come from multiple suppliers, though EMG obtains some base metals and steel components from a limited number of sources. Competition is based on technology, performance, quality, service and price, and in each market AMETEK competes with a number of companies. It holds numerous patents and trademarks but does not consider any single one essential. It is subject to environmental regulation.
