NYSEIndustrialsCommercial Services & Supplies

ABM Industries Incorporated is a leading provider of facility maintenance, engineering and infrastructure solutions. The company traces its history to 1909, when it began as a window washing company in San Francisco, and was incorporated in Delaware in 1985 as the successor to that business. It has grown into a multi-segment facility solutions company, mainly through acquisitions, with revenue of more than $8.5 billion. Its offerings include janitorial, engineering, parking and eMobility, electrical, lighting and energy solutions, HVAC and mechanical services, landscaping and turf services, and mission critical solutions, provided on a standalone or combined basis. Since 2015 it has pursued the "2020 Vision" transformation initiative, which included selling its Security and Government Services businesses, followed by the ELEVATE systems modernization plan launched in 2021.

ABM reports five segments. Business & Industry, the largest, provides janitorial, maintenance, facilities engineering, and parking and transportation management. Manufacturing & Distribution provides integrated facility services, engineering, janitorial and other specialized solutions to manufacturing, distribution and data center facilities. Aviation supports airlines and airports with parking and transportation management, janitorial services, passenger assistance, catering logistics and aircraft cabin maintenance. Education provides janitorial, custodial, landscaping, grounds maintenance, engineering and parking services. Technical Solutions covers mechanical and electrical systems and the design, installation and maintenance of microgrid systems, uninterrupted power supply systems, power distribution units and EV charging stations. It also franchises certain engineering services under the Linc Service and TEGG brands. Acquisitions include GCA Services Group, Able, RavenVolt, Momentum Support, Quality Uptime Services and LMC FM.

Customers include owners and operators of commercial real estate, corporate offices, sports and entertainment venues, hospitals and healthcare facilities, manufacturers, distributors, data centers, airlines, airports, public school districts, private schools, colleges and universities. Operations span the United States, the UK, Ireland and other locations. No single client exceeded 10% of consolidated revenues in 2025, 2024 or 2023, though one client accounted for about 32% of Manufacturing & Distribution revenues, two clients for about 27% of Aviation, and one client for about 30% of Technical Solutions in 2025. Contracts take forms such as monthly fixed-price, square-foot, cost-plus, work order, transaction-price, hourly, several parking arrangements, milestone-based energy and installation projects, and franchise agreements. Many are cancelable on short notice, but the company reports high client retention.

The business is labor-intensive. Direct labor was 68% of revenue in 2025, and the company had about 113,000 employees as of October 31, 2025, roughly 92% of them frontline. About 51,000 were covered by more than 300 collective bargaining agreements. Most revenue comes from competitive bids. The company competes on price, service quality, efficiency and responsiveness, mainly against regional and local owner-operated companies, and indirectly against customers that perform services in-house. Entry costs are low. Sales are handled by teams aligned to industry groups with centralized support. Operations are subject to labor, health and safety, and environmental regulation. ABM's fiscal year ends October 31.
